GM announces a new diesel for its 2027 HD pickups
GM says Silverado HD and Sierra HD updates are due at U.S. dealers in late 2026.
What happened
GM announced an available 8.3-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V8 for the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD on September 24. The company states output of 555 horsepower and 1,230 lb-ft of torque. It also announced electric power steering and an electronic brake-boost system.
Why it matters
The announcement covers steering and braking as well as engine output, making this a broader mechanical update for heavy-duty truck buyers. UTH has not driven or independently tested the changes.
What drivers should know
GM expects U.S. dealer arrivals in late 2026 and says pricing will follow. Its maximum towing figures apply to selected, properly equipped configurations; they are not the rating of every truck. Buyers should check the specific vehicle's ratings and equipment when ordering.
